2016 was a really busy year for me with several exciting trips to Europe and the US. In this blog I have tried to document some travel experiences because it is always fun to share some travel tips. Here are my top travel moments and travel destinations of the year, in no particular order. Giant’s […]
Croatia
Croatia is a wonderful travel destination and we have only visited the country once so far, but I would love to go back some day. Some of the reasons why you should consider visiting this small country on the Balkan Peninsula are for example:
The climate. Croatia has a long beautiful coast line along the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea, the weather here is warm and sunny. If you look for a vacation in the sun, this is a good place to go to. The water is warm and incredibly clear during the summer. Not many beaches along this coast are sand beaches, instead they are covered in small or large rocks or gravel, and there are many places for cliff jumping.
Food. Eating out in Croatia is cheap and the food is tasty, with a lot of influences from Italian food. Seafood is served at most restaurants and you can also get a nice piece of meat. Beer is also very cheap.
People. We found that the people here were very friendly, especially if you rent a room or a flat at someone’s house. Our hosts in the small town near Plitivice Lakes were very hospitable and invited us for drinks in their garden.
Culture. This is a country with a rich culture and we only had time to explore a small portion of it. But as an example, the Arena in Pula is as spectacular as the Colloseum in Rome and it is one of the best preserved amphi theaters from the Roman era still standing at any place in Europe.
Nature. With a beautiful coastline and many spectacular national parks, you can spend a lot of time discovering the many wonders of Croatia. The amazing waterfalls in Plitvice Lakes National Park is a must, if you are nearby, but there are many other places to explore too.

Day trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park
The main reason we booked our trip to Croatia this summer was because we wanted to experience the wonder of Plitvice Lakes ( Plitvička Jezera in Croatian). It’s the largest national park in Croatia and a UNESCO World Heritage site, located near the border to Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s a four hour drive from Pula where we […]
Cliff jumping in Kamenjak, Croatia
Cape Kamenjak is located on the Premantura peninsula and makes up the southermost point of Istria in Croatia. The area has been protected as a national park since 1996 and it’s a popular destination for tourists and locals in the region. Be prepared that your visit will last for the major part of the day […]
Pula Arena
The Pula Arena in Croatia is the best preserved Roman amphitheatre in the world. It’s as impressive as the Colosseum in Rome and it retains its complete curcuit of walls. Today the arena is used for gladiator “fights” and concerts. There has even been a hockey game inside the arena! When we visited in July […]
